Accordingly, the article explains how magnet schools have been used as a tool for maintaining racial balance, as well as, desegregation of students in the school setting (Goldring and Smrekar 4). The last article, The Uses of the University, examines the use of universities in societies today. The article looks at the significance of the university to a student, professor, and the community at large. Accordingly, the main use of the university is identified as the production of an integrated community of scholars in society (Kerr 1).

The article argues that the university is responsible for the economic, social, and political growth of the community in which it exists, thus is responsible for the growth and development of societies. Accordingly, the paper also provides seven signs regarding the future of universities in the state (Kerr 3).
