Annotated bibliography El-Khatib, Ziad, David Scales, Jo Vearey, and Birger C. Forsberg."Syrian Refugees, between Rocky Crisis in Syria and Hard Inaccessibility to Healthcare Services in Lebanon and Jordan." Conflict and Health 7.1 (2013): 7-18. Print. Before the civil war in Syria, the country had great potential in terms of economic growth. However, it has been different as a result of the war in the country. In an argument by El-Khatib et.al Syria is a perfect example of deteriorating economy as a cause of conflicts in Arabic nations (8).

The economy of Syria was supported by a perfect education and healthcare system. El-Khatib et.al point out that the United Nations had less to worry about the Millennium Development Goals in Syria before 2007 (8).Allison, Roy. "Russia and Syria: Explaining Alignment with a Regime in Crisis." International Affairs 89.4 (2013): 795-823. Print. Apart from the effects on its own MDG, neighboring countries such as Jordan and Lebanon have been affected by the crisis. This shows the depth in which the crisis in Syria has affected the region’s economic condition (Allison, 801).

In an argument by Alison et.al the impact on other countries has further cut down on the potential of Syria recovering from the effects of the war early enough (807). Shojaei, Amir, KazemYoussefi, and Hossein Shams Hosseini."A CDA Approach to the Biased Interpretation and Representation of Ideologically Conflicting Ideas in Western Printed Media." Journal of Language Teaching and Research 4.4 (2013): 858-68. Print. The article presents a summary of the paper by pointing out that Syria’s MDG has been significantly affected by the crisis.

Shojaei, Kazemand & Hossein point out that the UN has cited Syria as the worst affected country by internal violence in the modern day (863). The UN is also keen to note that the country has become less humanity friendly as refugees from Syria are on the increase in Lebanon and Jordan.UNDP."Responding to the Crisis in Syria." Responding to Crisis in Syria.N.p., n.d. Web. 26 Mar. 2014. . To further examine the impact of the crisis in Syria on its MDG, UNDP highlights data that show the effect on human development.

About 100,000 persons have lost lives since the crisis in Syria. In addition, 4 million people are displaced within Syria and another 2 million are refugees in foreign countries. The article further points out that 3 million of 22 million populations of Syrians have been driven to extreme poverty as the poverty levels rise to 8% from almost 0% in 2007. United Nations Development Program. Resilience-based Development Response to the Syria Crisis. N.p.: United Nations Development Program, 2013. UNDP.United Nations, Dec. 2013.Web. 26 Mar. 2014. . This article also focuses on the effects of the crisis in Syria.

The article recognizes the fact that Syria is in deep crisis affecting all its economic sectors as well as education and healthcare. The article introduces a recovery strategy that may help the 9.3 million people who need humanitarian assistance in Syria (UNDP 10). The UN has put in place mechanisms that may help Syria end its crisis. However, the article argues that it is only possible if militants and rebels corporate. With international help the article estimated that over $22 million will be needed to save the nation.

Schmitt, Eric. "Qaeda Militants Seek Syria Base, U.S. Officials Say." The New York Times. The New York Times, 25 Mar. 2014. Web. 26 Mar. 2014. . The article points out that with no security or a functional law in Syria, terrorists have turned the nation to a recruitment and training base for extremists. Schmitt points out that they have been reports that terrorist from Pakistan have settled in Syria with an objective of recruiting war soldiers (Par 4). The assumption is based on that the crisis in in Syria is fuelled by the presence of terrorists in the country.

With soldiers from the United States and Europe in Syria, there are fears that they may be converted and carry attacks when they return home (Par 1). Associated Press. "UN Chief Says Both Sides Block Aid to Syrians." Washington Post. The Washington Post, 24 Mar. 2014. Web. 26 Mar. 2014. . The article claims that the crisis in Syria is fuelled by the enmity between the government and the opposition. The two parties have been accused for blocking aid for the people who need humanitarian help. The UN has tried to access the affected people but with no success as both rebels and the government hinder aid provision.

The situation is expected to be worse as the violence escalates and not agreement met by the warring parties. Works citedAllison, Roy.
