Extract of sample "Developmental Issues"

One of the developmental issues evident in the case study is the parent-sibling relationship. Rachael has a strained relationship with her parents, which is affecting her relationships with men, Tayib on the other hand has a stable relationship with his parents and also his extended family in general but they are pressuring him to get a good education. Luke lacks parental love from both parents since his mother and father broke up (Broderick and Blewitt, 2009).

The other developmental issue is spousal relationship and commitment. Due to the different parental nurturance of both Tayib and Rachael, they both aim for a serious relationship with their future spouses. Work commitment and job satisfaction is other developmental issue in the case study. Tayib is working as a paraplegic who is being overworked and hence not satisfied with what he does, while Rachel has a good job as a public relations executive and she is satisfied with her job.

Rachael should talk to her parents about their relationship with her; this will help her in raising Luke alone without trying to spoil him as a way to compensate for her parental relationship strain. She and Tayib need to understand each other’s work so that no blame and rejection will take place as a result of work. Tayib and Rachael need to find out more about their relationship with their parents and how that is affecting their relationship development.

Tayib needs to prioritize his choices and includes Rachael and Luke who are part of him in his plans and try to make room for them. Luke is in a development stage where parental nurturance is important for his emotional development (Broderick and Blewitt, 2009). He, therefore, needs stable parental care and relationship and Rachael and Tayib should consider that fact.
