In similar research by quote (year) to test the performance and functionality of schemes on XML documents, quote (year) noted that outcomes with tests that are run could be fluctuating in-between different times of experimentation. This means that relying on only a few tests for each experiment in the design of the new scheme could hamper the credibility of outcomes negatively (quote). Based on this, it is important to emphasize for each of these four different experiments, there were different tests run for each set of variable that was being tested.

This was done with the reason for finding the most consistent line of results to be presented in the study’s results and analysis. Once this was done, the internal validity of the study was justified because there were consistency and internal critiquing of the outcomes produced for the study (quote). The results that are presented in this chapter of the study therefore represent the outcome of the average of 20 different tests performed on each variable that was tested under each of the 4 experiments.

As far as the presentation of results and analysis is concerned, it is important to stress that this chapter has two major types of approaches to the presentation of findings. The first has to do with the use of graphs, which give the pictorial outcome of the experiments. The results from the graphs are more or less descriptive in nature as they describe the performance or behavior of the two major schemes, which were GroupBased labeling scheme and DDE scheme. These graphical outcomes are presented in section 7.

3 of the chapter after section 7.2 presents the different sizes of the XML files used in the experiments.

Developing rigorous hypotheses

In effect, should deductive approach have been used exclusively in this study, the researcher would have had to focus the experiment on testing and examining the theory so that a firm theory or conclusion would be derived from the effect of the proposed scheme as a labelling scheme (Hardy & Bryman, 2004; Creswell, 2007).... As a result of this, instead of exclusively basing on the hypothesis set in the first chapter, greater part of the research approach was inductive, where the researcher's main basis for drawing conclusions on the performance, scalability and efficiency of the proposed labelling scheme was taken from the accumulated findings throughout the research process....

Static vs. Dynamic XML queries

A labeling scheme supporting solely static XML queries is not enough for XML to become a general standard for data representation and exchange; a labeling scheme that effectively supports dynamic XML trees is also necessary (BEHRENDS 2007).... However, dynamic queries are problematic and difficult to handle because they are require the updating of the labels of many nodes simultaneously with the updating of the original XML document to preserve the efficiency of the labeling scheme....
