Diversity in the news Diversity in the news Summary Over the past years, Conservative Government of Canada has not recognized racialdiversity during its judicial appointment. As a result, there has been discrimination of visible minority and gender. According to Mail, The Globe, and Canadian Bar Association it is evident that in 2006 only 11.5% of Ontario lawyers and 14.6% of B.C lawyers were members of visible minorities. The rest of the majorities were middle-aged White men (Fine, 2014). In addition, during the provincial appointments only the whites were given positions as the new judges.

Emmett Macfarlane and Professor Rosemary Cairns Way claims that between 2012 and 2014 only one non-white judge was chosen in the 94 appointments. However, the federal judicial affairs commissioner argues that only a 3rd of the one thousand one hundred and eleven federal judges sat on provincial superior courts. This is because women were underestimated and therefore only males were entrusted as judges (Fine, 2014).Relating paragraphThis article involves two contexts of diversity which include gender and members of visible minorities.

There is a need for the conservative government of Canada to acquire diversity awareness. This will enable it to respond to racial differences in an effective and respective manner that preserve and protect a person’s dignity. Recognizing racial diversity by the government will strengthen its Employment Equity Act. As a result, the Act will be able to secure employment for women and visible minorities in their judicial career. The conservative government need to apply racial diversity in judicial appointment in order to promote a common organizational vision.

This vision is more effective because ideas originate from a mixed group of people (Fine, 2014).Questions Why did the government not recognize the visible minority during the judicial appointment? The government lacked diversity awareness and therefore it did not have the ability to respond effectively and respectfully towards protecting the dignity of non-whites.What caused women discrimination in judicial appointment?Women were discriminated because they were seen as passive members in judicial system.

What recommendations would be given to improve conservative government in appointing judges? There is a need to recognize and appreciate diversity in order to promote common vision. This vision is made up of ideas that originate from a mixed group of judges. ReferencesFine, S. (2014). Tories chastised for lack of racial diversity in judicial appointments.
